Situated
on the left bank of the Rhône, Andancette was also a mercantile port from Roman
times. It is now a pleasure port, given over to fishing and sailing craft
navigation and has become a popular stopping off point for recreational boats.
The pretty town attracts anglers, walkers to its banks and those who appreciate
bream whitebait, bleak fish and roach.
A commemorative plaque by the Rhône tells of a brief visit by Léon Gambetta, an important French politician in the 3rd Republic, and dear to the town’s memory. The stone church, the cobbled square, the renovated road to the Rhône, one of the oldest streets in town and lined with prestigious residences, Andancette is proud of it’s heritage. Stop off to see the Marc Seguin road suspension bridge with it’s splendid outlook over Ardèche and the only high vantage road vehicle bridge over the Rhône.
