Saint-Sorlin en Valloire

This is a mainly rural commune and was known as the La Valloire bread basket when the windmills were turning in full sail along the Veuze river. An activity that has now passed into history and the little commune of 1,582 inhabitants now enjoys the calm of a countryside where the orchards predominate.
The commune probably gets its name from the 12th century church of St. Saturnin. The splendid church frescoes have now been restored to their former glory.
It also holds a small statue of St. Appolonie, the patron saint of dentists.
The little hamlet of Marguerits holds the communal wells, dating from the 16th century. Nearby is the La Pérouze Château, often visited by Napoléon III.
