THE VALLOIRE...

« Welcome to the Valloire Tourist Information Office »

Between the “Ardèche verte” and the ‘Drôme des collines’(Hilly Drôme), the ‘Valloire’ gathers the villages of Albon, Andance, Andancette, Anneyron, Beausemblant, Champagne, Epinouze, Lens-Lestang, Manthes, Moras-en-Valloire, Peyraud, Saint-Etienne de Valoux, Saint-Rambert-d’Albon and Saint-Sorlin-en-Valloire.

Once called « Vallis Auréa » by the Romans, then « Dauphiné wheat storehouse”, “Viennois’ garden » ; the Valloire was covered by a glacier. Later, it was the bed of the Isère river. The rolled pebbles that we find everywhere in riverbeds as in the ground are still bearing testimony of this.Shingles are in fact with molasse stones and cob one of the building materials of traditionnal houses.

Along with the richness of its grounds, a favourable hydrology turns out the Valloire into a multi-cultivation ground : meadows, fruit trees, cereals, tobacco, strawberries...its agriculture is still very much alive.

Welcome to the Valloire where the inhabitants will be happy
to share with you the joy of living in their valley.
